David H. Lyman - Photographer

I’ve been seeing the world through a view-finder since I was 17 years old. A buddy and I bought our first cameras, Speed Graflex 4x5 field view cameras and darkroom equipment some retired newspaper staffer was selling. That was 1957. Self taught through trail and error and some mentoring by a few working pros, plus a year in Vietnam as a photojournalist with the Navy, taught me to see the world in scenes, events and relationships. While I made my living as a photographer, my images were always accompanied by my writing. I find it hard to do just one thing and find great joy is doing both, for they are very much alike and related. Writing is less technical, requiring a pen and some paper, but the ideas that are assembled share a common source and mission .  . to explain to others what I’ve seen and experienced.

Click on the link to the right to see a sampling of images. There you will find various portfolios containing photographs of projects and subjects  I’ve made recently. Images can be viewed as presented or in various formats. Click the buttons at the bottom of the page to see each portfolio as a mosaic, slide show, carousel or grid. If there is an image you would like to have, email me with the file information that appears beneith the image, and how you would like to receive the image. Prints, enlargement, and electronic files are all possible.
