Herb’s High Seas’ Weather Forecast

Sample of a weather report and route suggestions from the  Great Voyaging Shepherd, Herb Heidelberg from Southbound II. Every day, Herb talks to dozens of skippers who are sailing off shore through the Atlantic, between New England to the Caribbean, via Bermuda,  the Azores and the Cannery Islands. He does this free, seven days a week, and never take a day off.

He wants to know where you are, Lat /  Long, wind speed and direction, barometer reading, sky and sea state and course and destination. In exchange for that information, he’ll tell you what to expect along your route over the next 3 days, provide some help in   planning your course to take advantage of winds, or to steer clear of hazards.

I’ve used Herb on 14 voyages south and north, from Maine to the Caribbean and back.

The recording was made on on November 17, 2009 as we were a day south of Bermuda, on a voyage to the BVI.

No very dramatic, as winds were light to non-existent for 4.5 days of the 6.5 days it took us to make the 860 mile voyage.
